Weiser Forest drive will go in opposite direction
NATALIE - A drive through the Weiser State Forest, Roaring Creek Tract, is planned for Oct 20. The drive will begin at the Route 42 parking area gate at 9:30 a.m., and the gate will remain open until 2 p.m. Traffic will be restricted to Roaring Creek Trail in a one-way direction along the eight-mile trail and exit at the Route 54 gate. All vehicles will be required to exit the forest by 3 p.m.
The drive is for passenger vehicles only. Vehicles towing trailers/campers, buses, motor homes and other large vehicles will not be permitted to enter.
Visitors are encouraged to bring a picnic lunch and stop at one of several picnic tables located along the trail or at C. Q. McWilliams Picnic Area. The picnic area is adjacent to McWilliams Reservoir at the halfway point.
Individuals who possess a valid fishing license may cast a line from the shore or from a canoe or kayak, which are permitted on McWilliams and Kline's reservoirs. A valid launch permit from the DCNR or Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission affixed to the boat is required. Launch permits will not be available for sale at the drive-through this year. Canoes and kayaks must be transported by rooftop or in the bed of a pick-up truck.
Bureau personnel will be posted along the trail and at points of interest to assist the public and answer questions.
