Victim of fatal accident may have fallen asleep
DANVILLE - Authorities believe a young driver killed in a crash Friday in Mahoning Township fell asleep at the wheel.
Nichole B. Cosgrove, 24, of 318 Lower Mulberry St., Danville, and formerly of 165 Coal Run Road in Coal Township, was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash along Route 11.
Mahoning Township police Cpl. Chad Thomas told The Daily Item that Cosgrove's Mazda crossed three lanes of the highway and hit a parked 2011 GMC Sierra pickup truck head-on. The truck was occupied by Michael Trevorah, 37, of Binghamton, N.Y., who was hospitalized at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville, with serious injuries. Trevorah was doing testing of a natural gas line in a construction area, police told the newspaper.
A 2007 graduate of Shamokin Area High School, Cosgrove was a registered nurse at Geisinger, according to her obituary, which was published in Sunday's and today's News-Item.
