Victim in fatal crash on I-80 in Union County identified
NEW COLUMBIA - A Vietnamese woman was identified Friday afternoon as the victim killed Wednesday when a Greyhound bus struck a tractor-trailer on Interstate 80 in White Deer Township, Union County.
The identity of Hoang Thi Thanh Son, 37, was confirmed by comparing her fingerprint with one in her Vietnamese passport, according to state police at Milton.
Her last name was not included in the Greyhound passenger list, police said.
The Vietnamese Consulate was notified. An investigation continues.
The bus was extensively damaged when it hit the rear-end of a flatbed trailer that was hauling garbage at about 1:30 a.m. in the westbound lanes of I-80.
A Greyhound spokeswoman said 38 of the 49 passengers transported to five hospitals were treated and released late Wednesday afternoon. The bus driver, Sabrina Anderson, 42, was one of the four people initially listed in critical condition.
The bus was heading from New York City to Cleveland.
The section of I-80 where the crash occurred was shut down for about 15 hours.
