UPPER MAHANOY TOWNSHIP ACCIDENT
A 60-year-old Birdsboro man suffered injuries in a two-car crash Saturday morning along Route 125 near Township Route 395 in Upper Mahanoy Township.
Trooper Samuel Edwards of state police at Stonington reported Stephen P. Thompson was extricated from his 1983 Oldsmobile Ninety-Eight by emergency medical personnel and transported by ambulance to Geisinger Medical Center in Danville following the 5:37 a.m. accident.
Thompson underwent emergency room treatment before being released, according to a nursing supervisor.
Police said Thompson was traveling north on Route 125 and negotiating a right curve when his car entered the southbound lane and struck the front end of a 1994 Ford Mustang driven south by Mark B. Stone, 27, of Shamokin, who suffered a minor facial/head injury.
After impact, Thompson's auto came to rest in both lanes of the highway. Stone's car rolled backward into the northbound and southbound lanes before coming to rest.
Both vehicles sustained front-end damage and were towed from the scene.
Police said Thompson will be cited for failure to drive in a single lane.
