SHAMOKIN - Shamokin firefighters were called to 44 S. Sixth St. at 11 a.m. Saturday on a report of a possible building fire. When firefighters arrived at the three-story apartment complex, the fire had already been extinguished.

Shamokin Assistant Fire Chief Bruce Rogers said a candle left unattended on a stove started the fire and a neighbor called 911 to report the fire.

Damage was limited to the apartment's range hood and cabinets. A fan was used to ventilate smoke from the building. The fire was ruled accidental.

Responding were Shamokin Fire Bureau, fire police and Shamokin police officers.
