MIDDLECREEK TOWNSHIP - Two Midd-West School District teens were killed Friday afternoon when the vehicle in which they were passengers left the roadway and struck a utility pole, according to the Middleburg Police Department.

Police reported a 16-year-old male and a 14-year-old female were pronounced dead at the scene by a Snyder County deputy coroner. Names of the victims were not released by the police.

Three other teens - two males, ages 18 and 16, and another female, age 14, were involved in the crash, said police.

The unidentified driver lost control of a Ford Windstar while traveling east on Sale Barn Road in Middlecreek Township at 2:51 p.m. Friday. The vehicle crossed the roadway and struck a utility pole, severing it, and rolled, ejecting some of the occupants, police said.

The operator and one surviving passenger were transported to Geisinger Medical Center by Life Flight. Another passenger was transported by ambulance, said police.

Assisting the Middleburg Police were Kreamer Fire Department, Middleburg Fire Department and Ambulance, Pennsylvania State Police, a Montoursville reconstruction and forensic unit and Snyder County District Attorney Michael Plecuch.

The investigation is continuing.

My heart goes out to all the families of the children involved in this horrific event. When will the state "wake up" and raise the age of driving to at least 18??? Kids at the age of 16 can't even wake up in the morning by themselves let alone take the lives of themselves and others into their own hands and operate a vehicle that can kill others and themselves!! I am so very sorry for your losses!
