Two events are scheduled Saturday, Sept. 11, to benefit Aaron Persing, a 2-year-old Shamokin boy who is battling a rare cancer.

A $15 day is scheduled for the RCA Picnic Grounds in Ranshaw. A Chinese auction starts at 3 p.m., while face-painting, children's games and serving of food begins at 4:30 p.m. Children under 12 are admitted free. The Valley Boyz will perform at 7 p.m.

For tickets, call 975-9648 or 648-4275.

Also, the Unknown Riders Motorcycle Club (URMC) has scheduled a ride that day to benefit Aaron.

Cost is $20 and includes the ride and admission to Fallen Biker Night later that day at the Jan Sobieski Club in Kulpmont, where a chili cookoff is planned. The ride originates at the URMC Club House in Sagon. Registration is from 2 to 2:45 p.m. and the ride leaves promptly at 3 p.m.

The rides ends at the Sobieski Club, where refreshments, food, the chili cookoff and live entertainment begins at 6 p.m.

Organizers stress that those who don't ride are still welcome to take part in the benefit, and that it is an all-age event. There will be three bands, food and refreshments in addition to various raffles, including a signed football from the Philadelphia Eagles' DeSean Jackson, an Apple iPod, a child's recliner and a handmade Penn State blanket.

Tickets are available from any URMC member, or call Steve Reiner at 205-1952, Tressa Reiner at 590-1391, John Quinn at 274-0972 or Sassy Snippers at 373-5699.

Donations accepted

Also, two separate donation accounts exist to benefit the family. Donations can be sent to FBO/Aaron Persing, c/o Deby Berry or April Mariano at Susquehanna Bank, 801 Chestnut St., Kulpmont 17834, or FBO/Aaron Persing, c/o Charlene Lesher or Terry Persing at Susquehanna Bank, 300 E. Independence St., Shamokin 17872.

Earlier this year, Aaron was diagnosed with a very rare lung cancer, pleuropulmonary blastoma. He has already undergone one surgery for the removal of the lower one-third of his lung and is enduring 36 weeks of chemotherapy that includes hospitalization every 21 days.
