Tickets on sale for train ride at arts fest to benefit 150th
SHAMOKIN - Tickets are on sale for train rides that will benefit Shamokin's 150th anniversary.
The rides will be offered Saturday during the annual Anthracite Heritage Festival of the Arts.
The 11 a.m. trip will take riders from Shamokin to Paxinos and back. For the first time since the rides were added to the festival lineup, the 2 p.m. trip will take riders eastbound to the area of the "Yellow Hill Crossing" just west of Mount Carmel.
The train cars can accommodate 350 passengers on each trip.
Tickets are $10 each and are available now at the Independence Fire Company, Shamokin City Hall, the 150th Anniversary Headquarters (next to Susquehanna Bank east branch, Independence Street) and The News-Item. All tickets are non-refundable.
Boarding begins at the Water Street parking lot one-half hour before departure.
The rides are offered in cooperation with Penn Valley Railroad, Shamokin Valley Railroad and SEDA-COG.
