Three vie for two seats on on Shamokin City Council
SHAMOKIN - Three nominees are vying for two seats on city council in Tuesday's general election.
Democrat Scott Anderson and Republicans Barbara Moyer and Charlie Verano are seeking election, guaranteeing at least two new faces on council in 2014.
The winners will replace Councilman William Strausser, who lost a nomination bid in May's primary election, and Council Michael Snyder, who did not seek re-election.
In an interesting twist, there could be a third new face on council depending on the results of the mayoral election. If Councilman Bill Milbrand, a Democrat, is elected mayor over his Republican challenger, Dan McGaw, the remaining two years on his council term would be filled by an appointee.
Milbrand will remain in office one way or another, as will Councilman R. Craig Rhoades, who lost to Milbrand in the May Democratic primary election for mayor, but whose council terms doesn't expire until 2015.
