The Moving Wall: Staff Sgt. Carl M. Stitely

Carl was born in Milton, a son of Thomas B. and Mary (Fierro) Stitely. He was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church.
He graduated from Milton High School in 1965 and was employed by the Milton Shoe Factory.
Carl enlisted in the Army in April 1966 and trained for the paratroopers at Ft. Benning, Ga. He was sent to Vietnam in October 1966 and served for a year. After a 30-day leave in the United States, he volunteered for an additional six months with the 101st Airborne Division. He was killed by a mortar shell March 21, 1968.
He was awarded two Purple Hearts, three Bronze Stars, the Army Commendation Medal, the Military Medal and the Gallentry Cross with Palms from the Republic of South Vietnam.
