Ray was born in Lewisburg, a son of Raymond C. and M. Ulrich. He attended the United Church of Christ in New Berlin. He graduated from Milton High School in 1967, where he

was an active member of the cross country and track and field teams.

Ray entered the service in 1968 and took his training at Fort Dix, N.J., and Fort Benning, Ga. He went to Vietnam in March 1969.

He was serving with Company A, 1st Battalion, 8th Cavalry, 1st Division. He was killed by enemy mortar fire while on patrol.

Ray was posthumously awarded the Purple Heart, two Bronze Stars with V and Gallantry Cross with Palm from the Republic of Vietnam.

Surviving at the time of death were his mother, father, two sisters and four brothers.

Ray was 20 years old. He is remembered on Panel 23E, Line 49.
