The Moving Wall: Pfc. Michael Liptock Jr.

Michael was born in Centralia, a son of Michael and Mary Liptock; his mother had preceded him in death. He was a 1960 graduate of Mount Carmel Area High School. Prior to
entering the U.S. Army Jan. 30, 1963, he was employed in New Jersey and was a former newspaper carrier for the Mount Carmel Item.
No information was found on how Liptock died, but he was the first area soldier who was a casualty of the Vietnam War, according to published reports at the time. He arrived in Vietnam in July 1962 from Fort Reilly, Kan., and was stationed in the Bien Hoa area in the Dong Hai province.
In addition to his father, he was survived by several brothers and sisters.
Michael was 22 years old and is remembered on Panel 2E, Line 122.
