Butch was born in Shamokin. He graduated from Shamokin Area High School in 1966.
Butch joined the Army Feb. 6, 1967. He served as a private first class with Co. D., 1st Battalion, 503rd Infantry, A/B Division.
Butch was on patrol on Hill 875 and Hill 882 in the Kontum area when his outfit encountered enemy forces. A skirmish ensued and Butch was hit and killed instantly.
Butch was awarded the Bronze Star with first oak leaf, Purple Heart, Good Conduct Medal, Combat Infantry Badge, Parachutist Badge, National Defense, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign, Sharpshooter Badge with tank weapons bar and rifle bar and a Marksman Badge with auto rifle bar.
Butch was survived by his parents, Donald A. and Joan Nahodil, two sisters and two brothers.
Butch was 19 years old and is remembered on panel 42E, line 54.
