According to the Northumberland County Area Agency on Aging, Tai Chi is currently the most popular form of exercise. Its popularity stems from the fact that everyone can do it regardless of age. While some exercise programs are strenuous and tiring, Tai Chi allows you to accumulate energy, leaving you refreshed and relaxed, according to the agency. It is designed to increase flexibility and strengthen muscles and tendons with low-impact exercise. It promotes a calm mind and spirit, which comes from combining relaxation, breathing and movement; it can decrease stress and improve balance.

Master instructor Barry Hallman will provide participants with a brief history of the practice of Tai Chi and teach basic moves of this ancient discipline. He has more than 40 years of professional experience teaching Tai Chi and other forms of marital arts.

The class is limited to the first 20 registrants ages 55 and older. Call Lou Morris at 570-644-0772, between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. to register.
