Sunbury Street structures down
SHAMOKIN - The demolition of fire-damaged homes on Sunbury Street was completed this week.
Knoeppel Coal Delivery and Demolition tore down and cleared debris from brick row homes at 604-606 E. Sunbury St. The two properties along with a third brick row home at 608 E. Sunbury St. and a fourth structure, 600 E. Sunbury St., were all damaged in an arson fire in January.
600 E. Sunbury St. was demolished in May.
The neighboring brick structures had stood for months after the blaze. Emergency measures were taken in May to pull down the top of the row homes after the buildings began to shift, posing a danger to pedestrians and motorists.
608 E. Sunbury St. was demolished and cleared by Knoeppel in August. The contractor was eventually authorized to do the same at 604-606 E. Sunbury St.
James L. Neidlinger Jr., 22, of Shamokin, is charged with setting the fires that destroyed the four homes. He is being held at SCI-Camp Hill. A pre-trial conference is scheduled for Dec. 6 in Northumberland County Court, Sunbury.
