HERNDON - St. Paul's United Church of Christ, 1473 Urban Road, will host its annual vacation Bible school July 9, 16, 23 and 30. This year's theme is "God's Good Sports."

Vacation Bible school staff will guide participants through learning activities that instill many of the Christian qualities that can be learned on the playing field: sharing, fairness, teamwork, endurance, patience, persistence and preparation.

Each session will feature a guest speaker who will present a talk that relates to each evening's Bible verse.

During session one, Travis Smink, a Line Mountain graduate who played in the Houston Astros farm system, will draw a comparison between following the rules of the game to following the Ten Commandments.

Shubby Marquette, a longtime assistant football coach in the Line Mountain area, will explain how God's strength helps us in all aspects of life, including participation in sports during session two.

Session three is road trip night when the entire vacation Bible school will travel to the American Softball Association Hall of Fame and Training Center in Sunbury. A short tour of the facility will be followed by a traditional lesson, craft and snack. Each youngster who attends will have an opportunity to try out the batting cages.

The last session will feature Christian Olympic games where students can practice the qualities they have been taught in the previous sessions. All attendees will participate in team events, and a winning team will be named and awarded a special treat.

There are classes for ages two through junior high school. Individuals who wish to participate can secure a registration form by calling the church office at 570-758-1860 or e-mailing stpauloffice@tds.net.
