RANSHAW - This week's "sore spot" is the former St. Anthony's Parochial School at Fifth and Webster streets. Once a safe haven for students and a location for community celebrations, the building now has broken windows and is surrounded by a rusty fence. The former school has been vacant for several years.

This week's "bright spot" is the Brady Fire Company, Seventh and Maple streets. Also vacant for several years, the former banquet hall was purchased by the fire company after a blaze destroyed their former quarters in August 2006.

The building has undergone extensive repairs and includes a bar, full kitchen, dining area and banquet facility. A three-bay garage that will contain the company's fire apparatus is expected to be complete next year.
