Shamokin City Council to vote on new clerk Monday
SHAMOKIN - City council is expected to vote Monday on the hiring of a new city clerk.
The special meeting will be held at 6 p.m. at city hall, 47 E. Lincoln St.
Four finalists for the job were interviewed Friday and Monday. They were culled from a pool of at least 10 applicants.
As previously reported, DCED officials are actively involved in the interviews, as are private-sector financial advisers hired with Early Intervention grant funding. City council itself has been represented by Milbrand and Councilman Dave Kinder, director of accounts and finance.
The city clerk's position was vacated Feb. 7 when Steve Bartos resigned at the anticipated end of a medical leave that began Nov. 13. Ed Zack, of Susquehanna Group Advisors, began a six-week appointment as interim clerk Feb. 18. The Harrisburg firm was hired using grant funding from the state's Early Intervention Program, in which Shamokin is enrolled toward improving its fiscal health.
Council's next regularly scheduled meetings are a work session at 6 p.m. April 2 and a voting session at 7 p.m. April 14.
