SHAMOKIN - Seventh Street Primitive Methodist Church is celebrating its 140th anniversary this fall.

The anniversary is Nov. 20, but it will also be celebrated Saturday when the quarterly conference and trustee board of the church conducts a dinner with special speakers.

The church, at 34 N. Seventh St., was organized by the Rev. Daniel Savage, who served as its first pastor. It was organized as a mission and met for worship at several locations in Shamokin before a sanctuary was built at its present location on land purchased by Anthony Smith.

The church building has been improved over the years, and a parsonage was erected adjacent to the church in 1887.

The current pastor is the Rev. Dave E. Wildoner.
