School News: Elks name MCA students of the month for December
MOUNT CARMEL - The Mount Carmel Area Elks have named their Students of the Month for December.
Student of the Month is senior Zack Wasilewski, a son of Mark Wasilewski and the late Lisa Wasilewski, of Den Mar Gardens. Wasilewski plays varsity football, basketball and baseball. He is vice president of the Spanish club and is a member of the Interact club. A distinguished honor student, Wasilewski is a member of the National Honor Society and played on the All-Area Football Team. In his free time, he enjoys fishing, snowboarding and hanging out with his friends. His future plans are to attend college to pursue kinesiology.
Junior Student of the Month is sophomore Luke Darrup, a son of Julie Darrup, of Kulpmont, and Joseph Darrup, of Mount Carmel. Darrup is on the distinguished honor roll, is part of the National Honor Society, and is president of the sophomore class. He plays saxophone in marching, symphonic, jazz and pep bands, and is a band librarian. Darrup participates in Interact club, senior high chorus and Odyssey of the Mind. He is an altar server at Divine Redeemer in Mount Carmel. Darrup participates in drama and played the leading male, Emmett Forrest, in this year's school musical "Legally Blonde." Darrup enjoys listening to music, playing video games and learning new things. His favorite sports teams are the Seattle Seahawks and Los Angeles Dodgers. Besides the saxophone, he plays piano and drums. After high school, Luke plans to attend college to enter the medical field.
The Teenager of the Month is freshman Rachel Brown, who resides in Mt. Carmel Estates with her parents, Troy and Lisa Brown. She is on the distinguished honor roll, is in the Junior Honor Society and takes part in Science Olympiad. In her spare time, she enjoys hanging out with her friends and family, going on the Internet and walking her dogs. Brown's future plans are to go to college to become a doctor.
The Junior Teen of the Month is seventh-grade student Nicholas Troutman, a son of Stacy Politza, of Kulpmont, and Randy Troutman, of Mount Carmel. Troutman is a distinguished honors student and enjoys playing basketball, football and baseball. He is a member of Odyssey of the Mind. His favorite subject is history, and he is interested in a career in sports.
