SCA board approves more than $7,000 in raises
CATAWISSA RR - The Southern Columbia Area School Board unanimously approved more than $7,000 in raises for the Act 93 administrators and business manager at its regular meeting Monday night.
Retroactive to July 1, a 1.5 percent increase was given to eight administrators, totaling $7,386.24.
The move was made to acknowledge the quality staff, said President Mike Yeager.
"It's an outstanding group of administrators and they work very well together," he said. "They have done a very good job for the school district."
Superintendent Paul Caputo agreed.
"Without a doubt, this a good administrative team," he said.
While the Act 93 employees were the first to agree to a pay freeze in the 2011-12 school year, they were approved for a pay increase in the 2012-13 school year.
The salaries of high school Principal James Becker increased $1,274.30 from $84,953.37 to $86,227.67; middle school principal increased $1,112.40 from $74,160 to $75,272.40; school psychologist Paula Gardner increased $954.58 from $63,638.55 to $64,593.13; curriculum/technology director Brenda Monick increased $1,236 from $82,400 to $83,636; special education director Jennifer Snyder increased $1,050.60 from $70,040 to $71,090.60; business manager Michael Sokoloski increased $1,236 from $82,400 to $83,636; school social worker Jill Zanolini increased $522.36 from $34,824.04 to $35,346.40; and school social worker Sylvia Costa increased 33 cents an hour from $22 an hour to $22.33 an hour.
The $30,000 salary of Jonathan Reed, technology support specialist, was not increased since he was hired in July, Caputo said.
The business manager follows the Act 93 agreement for raises only.
Caputo said there were no other changes to the expired Act 93 agreement and the board is still negotiating the terms of a new agreement.
