Salary board, commissioners meetings canceled due to Clausi being hospitalized
SUNBURY - Tuesday's Northumberland County salary board meeting and regular session of the county commissioners were canceled due to Commissioner Chairman Vinny Clausi being hospitalized.
The salary board session will be held at the beginning of the June 17 board of commissioners' meeting.
Clausi's illness landed him in Geisinger-Shamokin Area Community Hospital Monday night. He was admitted overnight before being transferred Tuesday afternoon to a hospital in Harrisburg.
Clausi had surgery in March and was out of the office for a number of weeks, but it's not known if the current issue is related.
Commissioner Stephen Bridy agreed to cancel the meetings at Clausi's request. Bridy, who was attending a two-day conference hosted by NetApp on behalf of the county in Silicon Valley near San Francisco, Calif., said he would have been able to participate by telephone at the meetings if necessary.
Bridy said he was invited to give a presentation on the county's work with Cloud technology.
Commissioner Richard Shoch and the media were notified about the cancellations Tuesday morning.
The salary board, which is comprised of the three commissioners and controller Chris Grayson, was scheduled to vote on increasing the salaries of administrative assistant Janet Povish and assistant solicitor John Muncer by $15,000 and $20,000, respectively, to reflect the additional duties they will absorb with the retirement of chief clerk Gary Steffen, which becomes effective June 6.
Povish currently earns a yearly salary of $35,833, while Muncer's salary is $65,180.
