Public is welcome to tonight's queen contest
SHAMOKIN - The public is welcome to help build momentum for the city's 150th anniversary celebration by attending tonight's "Miss 5th Ward" contest at 7 p.m. in the career center auditorium.
Contestants will be asked a series of questions under a few categories and a panel will judge each contestant on her responses as well as her mannerisms, poise and appearance. Those attending will also vote and the winner will be selected with an equal combination of judge and audience votes.
While votes are tallied, a short concert will be put on by Bunky and Coney Island Billy. Afterward, the winner will be announced and crowned.
Tickets can be purchased at the door for $5 or from the three contestants, Marissa Leshock, Jaime Levi and Emily Ebright. The three will represent the Fifth Ward on a special float in the July 5 anniversary parade along with other functions and duties related to the celebration.
Tickets to win a 2014 Camaro convertible that is being raffled to support the parade will be available.
