Power out six hours near Herndon after tree falls
HERNDON - Some 359 PPL customers were without power for more than six hours Saturday when a fallen tree brought down wires along Route 147.
Melinda Stumpf, regional affairs director for PPL, said the incident occurred at 11:28 a.m. and power was restored to customers at 5:54 p.m.
Motorists traveling in both lanes of Route 147 were detoured for the duration of the outage while crews worked to remove the tree.
Emergency personnel were staged near the ballfield at the south end of the borough and at the intersection of routes 147 and 225, blocking access to a 2-mile stretch of the highway.
Stumpf didn't know why the tree fell.
