Police: Someone vomited heroin outside station
SHAMOKIN - Shamokin police are puzzled after finding a trail of vomit containing at least one deflated balloon and a white powder they suspect is heroin in front of their station Thursday afternoon.
Chief Darwin Tobias III said the incident occurred between 12:30 and 1:30 p.m. Thursday and was discovered by an officer shortly thereafter. No suspects were nearby.
The mess begins outside the station door and ends at a nearby bench, apparently as if the perpetrator was exiting the station when the nausea set in.
Balloons are often used to conceal drugs in body cavities, police said.
Officers contacted local hospitals for overdose victims in an effort to discover the culprit, to no avail.
The vomit was still on the sidewalk Friday afternoon, when Tobias said he will personally be scraping the substance off the sidewalk and disposing of it in an undisclosed location later that afternoon.
If the substance is heroin, it is no longer ingestible due to its cement-like quality, Tobias said.
Anyone with information is asked to contact the station at 570-648-5708.
