CATAWISSA - A Mount Carmel couple faces drug charges after police said they found 150 packets of heroin during a traffic stop in Columbia County in July.

Moriah J. Close, 22, and Aaron Profit, 33, both of Mount Carmel, will have a preliminary hearing Thursday on felony charges of possession of a controlled substance, delivery of a controlled substances and 160 counts of possession of drug paraphernalia.

The (Bloomsburg) Press-Enterprise reports the two were stopped for a speeding violation at 3 a.m. July 20 at the Five Points intersection in Catawissa. Officer Joshua Laidecker said the two were acting strangely and further investigated. A search of Close's person found the 150 packets of heroin in her bra, along with a small bag containing pills. Also found was a 9 mm Glock pistol with a laser sight. Profit said he was holding it as collateral for a loan but gave no explanation for $1,000 in $100 bills in his wallet, the newspaper reported.

Police charge that the two were setting up drug buys and had snorted some of the heroin before being stopped by police.

During the investigation, Close allegedly told police Profit gave her son $2,000 for a birthday gift, and that she spent $1,600 of it for the heroin.

Both were jailed in Columbia County Prison in lieu of $100,000 bail. In addition to the drug offenses, Profit faces a charge of DUI of a controlled substance, a firearms violation and various traffic citations.
