Police investigate assault of employee at Walmart
COAL TOWNSHIP - Police were called to the Walmart SuperCenter Saturday night after a reported assault on an associate following a retail theft.
Police were called to the store at approximately 8:09 p.m. A scanner broadcast said that a suspect assaulted a loss prevention associate who had confronted them on the theft of some items, then pulled a knife on the associate before fleeing the store on foot.
Coal Township Police officers at the scene confirmed the assault, saying the associate suffered an injury to his jaw and was going to be checked out medically. Police would not give any other details on the incident, pending further investigation.
Police from Coal Township and Shamokin were inside the store for approximately one hour, reviewing video surveillance footage.
