Police: Coal Twp. man crashed vehicle twice in two days
COAL TOWNSHIP - Police here reported charges are pending against John Kodack, 31, of 1528 W. Montgomery St., who they said fled from the scene of a two-vehicle accident Tuesday night at State and Jackson streets.
Police said Kodack, who also was involved in an accident Monday morning at Water Street and Kulp Avenue, was driving a 2005 Ford Focus east on State Street at 10:15 p.m. when his car went through the intersection with Jackson Street and crashed into a fence at the rear of 1730 W. Mulberry St.
The car then hit a parked Jeep in the yard. The Jeep was pushed into an enclosed trailer which was pushed into a garage.
Police reported Kodack fled the scene on foot, but he was taken into custody at his residence for suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol.
The trailer and garage sustained moderate damage.
Kodack's car was towed from the scene by Anthracite Towing.
Monday's crash involved property damage as well, police said. They said Kodack was traveling east on Water Street when he failed to stop at a stop sign and his 1998 Buick LaSabre collided with a 2012 Ford F-150 truck driven by Daniel K. Venn, of 1545 W. Nelson St. Venn was driving north on Kulp Avenue. The impact caused Venn's vehicle to go onto the property of Albert Eichen at 1738 W. Walnut St., where it damaged a fence, shrubbery and the lawn.
The two vehicles sustained severe damage and were towed.
Kodack was cited for a stop sign violation in that case.
The investigation into Tuesday's accident continues, police said.
