Possession at prison

COAL TOWNSHIP - Winter Ivory Marie Fann, 21, of Wilkes-Barre, was charged by state police at Stonington with possession of marijuana after they said marijuana was found in her purse while she was visiting an inmate at SCI-Coal Township at 9:30 a.m. Saturday.


ZERBE TOWNSHIP - Cody Jared Merth, 19, of 893 Sunshine Road, Lot 8, Shamokin, and Ralph Erickson French, 33, of 929 Sunshine Road, Lot 11, Shamokin, were cited by state police at Stonington for harassment involving an altercation at 7 p.m. Sunday at Stiely's Trailer Park in Zerbe Township.

Police reported Merth failed to leave French's property after being asked to do so numerous times, prompting French to push Merth to get him off his property.

In what was filed as a separate press release, state police also cited a 15-year-old female from the trailer park for harassment for allegedly yelling threatening remarks to the children of Barbara Ann Shirk, 36, of 146 Stevens St., Coal Township, as they were playing outside a residence at the trailer park at 5:30 p.m. Sunday.

Retail theft

SHAMOKIN - Wendi Baumerts, 18, of 1656 W. Spruce St., Coal Township, was cited twice by Patrolman Raymond Siko II for retail theft involving incidents at CVS Pharmacy on West Independence Street.

Baumerts is accused of stealing a hair straightener from the store Dec. 18 and a hair dryer Dec. 12. Police said the items are valued at $48.99.

Public urination

SHAMOKIN - Norman J. Hemerka Jr., 41, of 319 N. Shamokin St., Shamokin, was cited by Patrolman Mark Costa for disorderly conduct for allegedly urinating on Terrace Avenue at 8:50 a.m. Friday.


SHAMOKIN - Patrolman Shane Mowery has cited Katherine E. Sulouff, 30, of 1435 Hemlock St., Coal Township, for harassment for allegedly punching Justine Sulouff, of 3 S. Gold St., Shamokin, in the face and striking her in the side with a wooden-handled shovel Feb. 16 at the victim's residence.

Couple charged

SHAMOKIN - Michael P. McGuire Jr., 34, and his wife, Deann McGuire, 34, of 8 N. Second St., Shamokin, have been charged by Patrolman William Zalinski with simple assault and harassment involving a disturbance at their residence at 10 p.m. Friday.

Michael McGuire is accused of striking his wife in the face and choking her, causing an abrasion on her right eye and bruises on her neck. Deann McGuire is accused of striking her husband, causing him to suffer swelling under his right eye and scratches on his left cheek.

The McGuires were arraigned by on-call Magisterial District Judge Hugh Jones of Mount Carmel. Mrs. McGuire was released on $5,000 unsecured bail. Her husband was committed to Northumberland County Prison in Sunbury in lieu of $15,000 cash bail.

Burglary charges

COAL TOWNSHIP - Barry Anoia, 27, of 1118 W. Walnut St., Coal Township, was charged by Patrolman Joshua Wynn with burglary, theft, receiving stolen property and criminal trespass.

According to a criminal complaint, Anoia is accused of entering the home of Rebecca Hadfield, of 1116 W. Walnut St., Coal Township, on Saturday afternoon and stealing a lock box containing various medications, including Xanax.

Anoia was arraigned at 4 p.m. Saturday by on-call Magisterial District Judge Hugh Jones of Mount Carmel and committed to Northumberland County Prison in lieu of $50,000 cash bail.

PFA violation

COAL TOWNSHIP - A protection from abuse order violation has been filed by Patrolman Chad Yoder against Kevin Houser, 48, of 905 Main St., Watsontown.

Police said Houser is accused of repeatedly sending text messages to Michelle Slavinsky, Coal Township, on Thursday and Friday. Police reported Slavinsky has a PFA against Houser.

Houser was arraigned late Friday night by on-call Magisterial District Judge Hugh Jones of Mount Carmel and committed to Northumberland County Prison in lieu of $20,000 cash bail. He posted bail Saturday and was released.

Wallet stolen

HAMILTON - State police are seeking information for a vehicle break-in that occurred overnight Sunday just outside Sunbury in Upper Augusta Township.

William Charles Reitz, 51, of Sun Valley Drive, told troopers someone broke into the driver-side window of his vehicle and stole a wallet from the cup holder. The theft occurred between 11:30 p.m. Sunday and 7 a.m. Monday.
