Organization News: Mount Carmel Knights
MOUNT CARMEL - Bishop Lawrence F. Schott Assembly 959 held its installation of officers Sunday, Oct. 6 at the Mount Carmel Knights of Columbus.
Sir Knights installed for the 2013-14 term were Faithful Navigator Jim Bailoni, Faithful Captain Charles Sacavage, Faithful Friar the Rev. Francis Karwacki, Faithful Admiral Peter Avellino, Faithful Pilot Edward Teevan, Faithful Scribe David Berezovske, Faithful Purser Joseph Swatski, Faithful Comptroller George Kroutch, Faithful Inner Sentinel Bernard Bolick, Faithful Outer Sentinel David Bartol and Faithful Trustees Thomas Buehl, John Schenewerk and Henry Zuech.
Former Master William Jones of Kingston was the installing officer. He was assisted by District Marshal Bernard Butkera, of Shamokin Dam. A social was held following the service.
Noted for their regalia of capes, chapeaus, swords and tuxedoes, the Fourth Degree is the highest and most prestigious degree with the Knights of Columbus. The principle of this degree is patriotism and Sir Knights are dedicated to the service of their church, their country and their order.
The Mount Carmel assembly was formed Jan. 15, 1954, and is named for the late auxiliary bishop of the Diocese of Harrisburg and pastor at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church.
