Organization News: Knights of Columbus
MOUNT CARMEL - Knights of Columbus Bishop Lawrence F. Schott Council 628 presented a check of $500 to Sister Alyssa Ranger, of the Carmel of Jesus, Mary and Joseph, Elysburg, on March 19, the Feast of Saint Joseph. A white rose, signifying innocence, was also presented.
Representing the local council was Grand Knight David Berezovske, Chancellor James Bailoni, Financial Secretary George Kroutch and Treasurer Henry Zuech. Sister Alyssa and Mother Stella Marie thanked the council for its continued support of the community and vocations.
On March 24, Berezovske, Bailoni and Kroutch attended the annual caucus of Pennsylvania Northeast Board of District Deputies. Hosted by Saint John Neumann Council 12571, the meeting was held at St. Vincent DePaul Church, Milford, with 100 members in attendance.
Elected as delegates for the supreme convention to be held in San Antonio, Texas, from Aug. 6 to 8 were Jeffery Jayce and Irving Ghigliotti. Alternate delegates to the convention are John Philapavage and Dr. Frank Krakowski. A resolution was passed nominating past state Deputy Michael J. O'Connor, of Frackville, for supreme director, the position he currently holds.
This year's state convention was held May 3 to 5 at the Lancaster Host, Lancaster. John Fitzpatrick was nominated for the position of state treasurer. A resolution was also passed supporting other regional caucus nominees for state offices.
In 2014, the northeast caucus will be held at Maria Assumpta Council 3987, Luzerne, on April 6.
