OLOL students participate in Red Ribbon campaign
COAL TOWNSHIP - Students at Our Lady of Lourdes Regional School participated last week in a Red Ribbon Week campaign to create peer unity and awareness of the consequences of drug use.
Students Against Destructive Decisions (SADD) organized the event to symbolize and promote the importance of a drug-free lifestyle. SADD officers are William Bittner, Anthony Catino, Peyton Klembara and Rachel Schultz.
Faculty, students and staff wore red ribbons. SADD members also decorated their vehicles with ribbons. Robert Schaeffer, safety educator from North Central Highway Safety, presented safe driving/riding classes to students in grades 9 through 12.
On Thursday, students concluded the campaign by participating in Grim Reaper Day. A SADD officer, dressed as a grim reaper, chose a "victim" every 53 minutes to stress upon the importance that every 53 minutes someone is killed in an accident involving alcohol. Victims were not allowed to speak the rest of the school day.
