Octoberfest luncheon huge turnout for Coal Crackers
PAXINOS - More than 200 members of the Coal Crackers Club attended an Octoberfest luncheon, the final event of 2013, at Massers Banquet Hall Wednesday afternoon.
The members traveled from areas in and out of Pennsylvania, and many of them have been attending the club's luncheon and picnics from its inception in 2000.
"The old friendships renewed and the new friends made at these events prove that once again, the coal region of Shamokin and the surrounding areas are rooted deep in our hearts," said coordinator Joan Wallish Muskey in a media release. "The areas have seen many changes throughout the years, but the friendliness never ceases."
Members were welcomed by Glenn Henninger, which was followed by a prayer of thanksgiving. Chris Masser and her loyal staff then served the meals.
Special guest speaker was state Rep. Lynda Schlegel Culver (R-108), who provided facts on the state.
Prizes donated by the club coordinators were awarded.
Muskey thanked all members for attending the luncheon. Since it was the last event for the year, she also thanked the coordinators for a great job and asked for their continued support.
On behalf of the committee members, Muskey wished everyone a happy and blessed upcoming holiday season. She reminded the members that the club will begin the 2014 season with a luncheon at Massers on April 30.
