Climbing wall, Humvees at fest

SHAMOKIN - The National Guard climbing wall from the Danville Armed Forces Reserve Center will be part of the Coal Township VFW Post 317 exhibit at Saturday's Anthracite Heritage Festival of the Arts.

The VFW is in booth 64 at the southwest corner of Market and Spruce streets.

The guard's recruiter Humvee and an armored Humvee will also be present. Staff Sgt. Karisa Marchlinski, a recruiter from the center, will participate also.

The post credits its new junior vice commander, Sgt. Eric Brigg, who works at the reserve center, for helping arrange presence of the wall and vehicles.

Ascension Thursday Masses planned

MOUNT CARMEL - Ascension Thursday Masses will be held at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, 47 S. Market St., at 8 a.m. and 7 p.m. May 29. Vigil Mass will be held at 5 p.m. May 28.

Life in the Spirit seminars planned

MOUNT CARMEL - The Rev. Frank Karwacki will present a new DVD, "Life in the Spirit," this summer.

The speakers on the DVD are Ralph Martin, founder of Renewal Minstries, and Patti Mansfield Gallagher and Ann Shields, key players in the early days of the charismatic renewal.

The presentations will be held at 6:30 p.m. May 28, June 4, 18 and 25, and July 2, 9 and 16 Our Lady of Mount Carmel Parish hall, 41 S. Market St.

Martial arts seminar planned

MOUNT CARMEL - A two-day martial arts seminar will be held from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. June 7 and 8 at Three Circles Martial Arts Institute to benefit the Children's Miracle Network.

Those with any form of martial arts, skills, grades and experience levels are welcome.

The event costs $50 for adults, $30 for teens between the ages of 13 and 17 and $25 for children 12 and under.
