Fall yard waste collection starts
COAL TOWNSHIP - The Coal Township Street Department began its fall yard waste collection period Monday. The collection will continue until Oct. 4. These two weeks are the only time tree limbs under four feet in length and four inches in diameter, bagged leaves and small bushes will be collected by the township. After Oct. 4, the street department will only be picking up loose leaves into November, weather permitting. Residents are directed to put the yard waste at the outer edge of their property for pick up, but not on the street.

Weight restrictions posted on bridge
MONTOURSVILLE - The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation announced starting today, the state bridge that carries Little Roaring Creek Road over the creek in Rush Township will be posted with a weight restriction. The bridge limit will be for single vehicles up to 33 tons and 40 tons for combinations. The posting will take effect as soon as the signs are erected on the bridge.
The restriction is part of a statewide initative by PennDOT to ensure bridge safety and preserve the state's aging bridge system. Reducing the weight traveling on these bridges will slow down their deterioration and preserve safety while funding for their repairs remains uncertain.
