St. John's UCC Scout signup set
SHAMOKIN - Registration for Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts and Venturing Scouting (co-ed) will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. today through Thursday at St. John's UCC, 117 N. Eighth St. Please use Grant Street entrance at church's rear.
Cub Scouts is for boys ages 6 to 10, and all 6 year olds must be in first grade; Boy Scouts ages 11 to 18; Venturing Scouting, co-ed, ages 13 to 21.
Participants sought for 9/11 salute
MOUNT CARMEL - The borough will honor the fallen heroes of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks on Wednesday.
Clover Hose Company will again host the memorial parade and ceremony to pay respect to all the victims at Shanksville, New York City and the Pentagon, as well as the many military personnel who gave all in defending the country.
The parade will form at Second and Oak streets at 6:30 p.m. and move to Clover Hose at Sixth and Oak streets at 7 p.m. The Joint Veterans Color Guard and Honor Guard will lead the ceremony with the raising of the U.S. flag followed by "Taps." The fire department, EMS and police will follow with their respects.

Five-week presentation at church
MOUNT CARMEL - "Catching Fire-Becoming Flame" DVD by the Rev. Albert Haase will be shown on five Thursdays at 6:30 p.m. in the parish hall of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church.
The sessions will be held Thursday, "The Spiritual Journey as a Process"; Sept. 19, "Your Image of God"; Sept. 26, "The Awareness of God: The Examen"; Oct. 10, "Seven Principles of Prayer," and Oct. 17, "God's Will and Decision Making."
Each session will be followed by discussion and prayer.
