Father to bless fishermen, women

MOUNT CARMEL - The Rev. Frank Karwacki will bless all fishermen and women and their fishing gear at 4 p.m. Mass Saturday, March 15, and the 8:30 a.m. and 11 a.m. Masses Sunday, March 16, at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church.

Ushers will secure the gear in the vestibule until it is time for the blessing.

The public is invited.

Food distribution set for Saturday

MOUNT CARMEL - The Mount Carmel Borough Food Pantry will hold its monthly food distribution from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday at The Notary Shop, 215 S. Oak St., for borough residents who had previously signed up. Residents of the Mount Carmel Mid Rise are asked to meet in the lobby at 8:45 a.m., and all are asked to bring their bags with them.

SCA accepting award nominations

CATAWISSA RR - The Southern Columbia Area School District will be accepting nominations for the 2014 Distinguished Alumnus Award until March 21.

The Distinguished Alumnus should be someone who has gone on to achieve success in their field of endeavor and/or has had a positive influence on the students and community of Southern Columbia Area.

Graduates of Southern Columbia Area High School or any high school that formed the Southern Columbia Area School District are eligible to be nominated.

Nominations explaining why a particular person should be the Distinguished Alumnus recipients can be emailed to Tresa Britch, board secretary, at tbritch@scasd.us.
