Mayor's meeting is Wednesday
MOUNT CARMEL - Mayor Phil "Bing" Cimino announced a community meeting will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday in at the town park gazebo. A story in this column on Sunday did not include the day.
The meeting, open to everyone, has been scheduled for a discussion of a bike park, community garden and any ideas citizens may have about recreation.
Cimino created a Facebook page to keep the public informed about events and activities in the borough. He can be reached via email at firstname.lastname@example.org.
St. John's UCC plans VBS
SHAMOKIN - A vacation Bible school adventure, "Workshop of Wonders: Imagine and Build with God," will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday through Thursday, July 24, at St. John's United Church of Christ, 117 N. Eighth St., Shamokin.

Millard to host farmers' breakfast
BLOOMSBURG - In an effort to ensure local farmers and agribusinessmen are up to date on Pennsylvania ag-related issues, state Rep. David Millard (R-Berwick) is sponsoring a farmers' breakfast at 8 a.m. Wednesday, July 23, at Ponduce Farms, 270 White Church Road, Elysburg.
Millard will give an update on ag-related issues in the state budget and in the legislature. Chris Herr of Penn Ag and John Frey of the Center for Dairy Excellence will also speak.
A buffet breakfast will be served. There is no charge to attend the event; however, those wishing to attend the forum must RSVP to Millard's office by calling 570-387-0246 no later than Wednesday, July 16.
Coal Crackers Club picnic July 30
ELYSBURG - There is still time to make reservation for the Coal Crackers Club annual picnic at Knoebels Amusement Resort on July 30. The cost is $15. Reservations can be made with Joan Muskey at 570-898-6920.
"If you grew up in the coal region but no longer live in the area, you are still a Coal Cracker at heart and will enjoy the friendliness of our group," she said. "You will meet many old acquaintances and make many new friends."
There is no charge for joining the Coal Crackers group.
