Lenten vespers at St. Michael's Orthodox
MOUNT CARMEL - St. Michael's Orthodox Church, 131 N. Willow St., will hold Lenten vespers at 4 p.m. Sunday, the Fifth Sunday of Great Lent.
Deanery priests will gather to help prepare the faithful for the celebration of the Resurrection. The main celebrant for the service is the Very Rev. Michael Hatrak, pastor of SS Peter and Paul Orthodox Church in Minersville and Assumption of the Virgin Mary Orthodox Church in Saint Clair. The guest peacher will be the Rev. Stephen Vernak, pastor of Christ the Saviour Orthodox Church in Harrisburg. The parish a capella choir will sing the responses and lead the faithful in singing the special verses.
Following the services, a light Lenten supper prepared by the parish will be served in the church social hall for all those in attendance. Everyone is invited.
Walk MS scheduled throughout region
Groups from throughout central Pennsulvania will participate in special walks sponsored by the National Multiple Sclerosis (MS) Society to raise awareness about MS.
The event is scheduled Sunday, April 27, in Bloomsburg, Gettysburg, Hershey, Lancaster, Lewisburg and Montoursville; Sunday, May 4, in State College, Enola and York, and Saturday, May 17, in Wilkes-Barre.
MS is an unpredictable, often disabling, disease of the central nervous system which interrupts the flow of information within the brain, and between the brain and body. MS affects more than 2.3 million people worldwide.
