'Heaven is for Real' series topic
COAL TOWNSHIP - "Heaven is for Real," based on a best-selling book, is the topic of an ongoing five-week DVD-based discussion series at 7 p.m. Mondays at St. John's United Methodist Church, 1211 W. Arch St.
The remaining sessions will be held Oct. 28 and Nov. 4 and 11.
Parade, scarecrow contest set
MOUNT CARMEL - The borough's annual Halloween parade, sponsored UNB Bank and Mount Carmel Elks Lodge 356, and a new scarecrow decorating contest are set for Saturday.
Parade registration begins at 10 a.m. at the Elks lodge, Oak Street. Also, registration can be done at the Mount Carmel Public Library until Friday.
The parade forms on Second Street in front of the VFW and moves out at 11 a.m. Judging will be done by the Mount Carmel Elks Lodge 356 following the parade. Winners can claim their prizes at UNB Bank, 1 North Oak St.
Rain date is 1 p.m. Sunday.
The scarecrow contest is sponsored by Mount Carmel Downtown Inc. The public can vote for their favorite scarecrow between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. All scarecrows should be entered by 9 a.m. in front of the library for placement throughout the downtown.
Cash prizes of $50, $30 and $20 will be awarded based on the number of votes received by the public.
Traditional fall foods, games and live music are planned from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m., at which time prizes will be awarded.
