King Coal Tours is stuffing the bus

COAL TOWNSHIP - A King Coal Tours motorcoach will be parked at the Wal-Mart SuperCenter from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday collecting donations for the victims of Superstorm Sandy.

Driver George Pettit, the coordinator of the effort, will be collecting cleaning supplies, children's jackets, blankets and other items that will be delivered Friday to either Staten Island, N.Y, or Toms River, N.J. The coach and the fuel for the trip is being donated by his employer, King Coal Tours.

Santa to arrive at mall

SELINSGROVE - The annual Santa arrival celebration will take place at 9 a.m. Saturday at the Susquehanna Valley Mall. In addition to Santa's arrival, the mall will host the 34th annual holiday parade, which will feature strolling characters, high school bands, whimsical floats and two special performances by Bob the Builder at 11 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. in Boscov's Court.

Santa will be available for photos at his festive forest home throughout the holiday season.

Centers closed for Thanksgiving

HARRISBURG - All PennDOT driver license and photo centers, including its full-service center in Harrisburg, will be closed Thursday, Nov. 22, and Friday, Nov. 23, for the Thanksgiving holiday.

Customers may still obtain driver and vehicle products and services at www.dmv.state.pa.us.

GED test to be given in December

MILTON - The General Educational Development (GED) Test will be given in December at the Central Susquehanna Intermediate Unit (CSIU) main office at 90 Lawton Lane.

The exam is made up of five parts: English/writing skills, reading, social studies, science and mathematics. Those taking the test must be 18 years of age and must have withdrawn from school.

Applicants are urged attend a free GED screening at Lewisburg, Milton, Selinsgrove, Shamokin or Sunbury site to determine test readiness. Instructions are available for registering online.

Testers must attend one of three orientation sessions at the CSIU on Monday, Dec. 3. To be scheduled, call the CSIU at 523-1155, extension 2326 weekdays between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m., go to www.GED123.org and print both registration forms, purchase a money order ($75 for complete test, $15 for single test) to "CSIU" and mail registration forms and money order to CSIU/GED, 90 Lawton Lane, Milton 17847.
