Parade committee meeting set
SHAMOKIN - The Shamokin 150th Anniversary Parade Committee, helmed by denizens of the city's Fifth Ward, will meet at 3 p.m. Sunday at Knights of Columbus, Rock and Independence streets. Topics to be discussed: parade ideas, parade divisions and promotion of Camaro convertible fundraising tickets. Interested people, whether from the Fifth Ward or not, are invited and encouraged to attend.
Dangerous food discussed
ELYSBURG - Hints and strategies for healthy eating will be discussed at Lifetree Cafe from 7 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Elysburg Presbyterian Church, 320 W. Valley Ave.
The program, titled "Dangerous Food: Is Your Supermarket Killing You?" features the filmed story of Joel Salatin, author of several books including "Everything I Want to Do Is Illegal: War Stories From the Local Food Front" and "Holy Cows and Hog Heaven: The Food Buyer's Guide to Farm Friendly Food."
Special resources will offer help in locating healthy food sources, and participants will discuss the role the government should play in deciding food choices.
Admission to the 60-minute event is free. Snacks and beverages are available.
Lifetree Cafe is a place where people gather for conversation about life and faith in a casual coffeehouse-type setting.
