Orchestra concert is tonight
COAL TOWNSHIP - The Shamokin Area Middle School and Senior High School orchestras, under the direction of Barbara DeGaetano, will present their free holiday concert at 7 p.m. today in the school auditorium.
The concert will begin with two selections, "Christmas Troika" and "Blue Christmas," performed by the high school string orchestra with percussion and piano accompaniment. The high school orchestra will then perform pieces that include two selections from the Nutcracker Ballet - "Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy" and "Waltz of the Flowers," followed by "Home for the Holidays," "French Christmas Suite," "Swingin' on the Housetop" and selections from "Polar Express." There will also be an audience sing-along.
The senior high string ensemble will welcome the public with holiday music in the lobby beginning at 6:25 p.m.
Progress reports come out Monday
COAL TOWNSHIP - Shamokin Area Middle/High School will distribute progress reports to students on Monday.
All students in grades 7-12 will receive a progress report to update parents with their child's academic status.
Support group meets today
SHAMOKIN - The Living With Grief support group will meet at Grace Lutheran Church, West Chestnut St., in the church parlor at 10:30 a.m. today.
Chaplain Bob Barner will discuss dealing with grief during the holidays.
The event is sponsored by the Shamokin Area Ministerium of Churches. For more information, call 570-648-7534. Everyone is welcome.
In Tuesday's edition, it was incorrectly reported that Kimberly Spiegel trained at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colo. Spiegel instead trained at the U.S. Olympic Education Center in Marquette, Mich.
