Donations accepted for animal shelter
MOUNT CARMEL - Donations are being collected at Black Diamond Video on Oak Street for the Ruth Steinhart Animal Shelter until Dec. 19.
Dog and cat food, cleaning products and animal toys are among the items being sought.
Library announces amnesty period
MOUNT CARMEL - As its gift to the Mount Carmel area community, a forgiveness and amnesty period will be in effect at the Mount Carmel Area Public Library from Dec. 16 to Jan. 18.
Patrons are encouraged to search for and return any overdue item during this period during the amnesty period to receive fine forgiveness.
Model railroad open house times set
SHAMOKIN - The Lower Anthracite Model Railroad Club will present its annual Christmas season open house through Dec. 26. The display will be open from 6:30 to 9 p.m. Friday, Dec. 13 and 20, and Thursday, Dec. 26, and from 3 to 9 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 14 and 21.
The 3,000 square-foot display is located on the second floor of the American Legion Building, above the library at 210 E. Independence St. Admission is free to the area's largest HO-scale operating display, which features 1950s era railroading on the Pennsylvania, Reading and Lehigh Valley railroads. There are also N-scale and O-scale operating displays, plus railroad photographs, memorabilia and artifacts. For more information, go to www.trainweb.org/lamrrc.
Cookie concert set for Monday
COAL TOWNSHIP - The Shamokin Area High School Symphonic Band will present its annual "Cookie Concert" at 7 p.m. Monday in the high school auditorium.
The holiday celebration will feature the Senior High School Symphonic Band under the direction of Kevin B. Styer. The band will perform a variety of holiday favorites.
The public is invited to attend. Admission is free. Donations will be accepted at the door. Refreshments will follow the concert for all participants and concert-goers in the high school cafeteria.
