Lions deliver 141 Easter meals

MOUNT CARMEL - The Mount Carmel Lions Club and community volunteers prepared and delivered 141 meals to area residents on Easter Sunday. The Lions have run the program for more than 35 years.

This year's new distribution and cooking facility was Divine Mercy Hall of Divine Redeemer Church. The club thanks hall manager J. D. Shutt, Divine Redeemer Church, and Boyer's Market in Mount Carmel.

The Lions have prepared and delivered a total of 630 meals since fall 2013 to help people on the holidays.

The Lions meet on the second and fourth Thursdays at their new meeting facility, the Mount Carmel Eagles on South Oak Street. Anyone with community spirit is invited to join.

Bicycle derby scheduled

The Coal Township Police Department will hold its annual bicycle safety derby beginning at 5 p.m. Wednesday, May 14, at the bottom parking lot of Kemp Memorial Stadium. Officers will teach bicycle safety. In addition, several bicycles will be awarded to participants.

Police community day

The Mount Carmel Borough Police Department will host its annual Police Community Day from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, May 17, at Market and East Third streets.

Safety and community events will take place throughout the day, including free child fingerprinting, a K-9 demonstration and a community shred-a-thon.

Officers will demonstrate and display safety implements, including a police vehicle. The event also features a petting zoo, gift basket auction and children's give-aways.

Food and games will be available throughout the day. A rain date is scheduled for May 18.
