Garden dedication today
SHAMOKIN - There will be a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 10 a.m. today at the community garden at Claude Kehler Community Park, Third and Arch streets. The public is welcome to attend.
Lantern tours set for tonight
SUNBURY - Candle lanterns will light the way while guides conduct lantern tours at the site of Fort Augusta, 1150 N. Front St., from 6 to 8:30 p.m. today. The Northumberland County Historical Society will host this free event. Donations will be accepted.
The tours are educational and designed to appeal to all ages.
Visitors will get a glimpse of the new model of Fort Augusta, which is nearing completion and will also view the two remaining original fort features on the property, the well and the powder magazine, as well as the Hunter-Grant cemetery. Guides will discuss Fort Augusta's history, the role of the soldiers at this important frontier installation, the story of Bloody Springs and more. The Fort Augusta exhibit in the Hunter House will be open.
Thirty-one bingo set for Sunday
DORNSIFE - A Thirty-One Gifts bingo to benefit the American Heart association will be held Sunday at the IOOF Lodge Hall, Route 225.
Doors open at noon and bingo starts at 2 p.m. All prizes will be Thirty-One combo sets. There also will be door prizes, raffles and a 50/50 drawing. There will be a concession stand and a bake sale at the event.
