Crowl treasurer of state board
KING OF PRUSSIA - The Pennsylvania Association of Conservation Districts (PACD) and the State Conservation Commission held their joint annual conference in King of Prussia July 15 and 16, during which Dave Crowl, chairman of the board for the Northumberland County Conservation District (NCCD), will was elected to serve treasurer on the PACD board for the upcoming year.
Crowl has been a member of the PACD board since 2012, the NCCD board since 2006 and the Northumberland County AgLand Preservation Board since 2001. He also serves as secretary of the Anthracite Outdoor Adventure Area Authority board.
A retired masonry contractor, he is an avid outdoorsman, an active member of Ash Grove United Methodist Church and a Christ servant minister.
Crowl resides in Elysburg with his wife, Jeanie.
Kulpmont to distribute food surplus
KULPMONT - Borough residents enrolled in the food surplus program are reminded of the distribution from 8 a.m. to noon Wednesday at the borough garage. Residents are reminded to bring their bags.
Route 54 project update
MONTOURSVILLE - Motorists who travel Route 54 through Locustdale in the southern tip of Columbia County are advised of coordinated projects involving PennDOT and the railroad scheduled to start early next month.
Reading Blue Mountain and Northern Railroad will reconstruct its at-grade crossing on Route 54 and PennDOT will concurrently mill and resurface the quarter-mile section of Route 54 that travels through Columbia County.
A detour will begin Sept. 3 and be lifted Sept. 13, barring any unforeseen circumstances beyond the department's control and/or extended inclement weather.
The detour will follow Lavelle Road, High Road and Route 901.
