Silver Creek fire tower hike planned
BARNESVILLE - A hike exploring the mountain behind Locust Lake State Park and a visit to the Silver Creek fire tower will be held at 1 p.m. Friday. Participants are asked to meet at the visitor's parking lot at the state park, located before the contact station.
This hike is six miles in length and moderate in difficulty. The pine stands and brush are perfect habitat for birds and other wildlife, and dogs are welcome. All pets must be leashed and get along with people and other pets.

Smokey Bear program at Locust Lake
BARNESVILLE - A program featuring Smokey Bear will be presented at 6 p.m. Saturday at the Locust Lake State Park Amphitheater.
Dave Duffy, the fire chief from New England Fire Company will give a fire prevention and campfire safety presentation, followed by a visit from Smokey Bear.
The program is free and open to the public, and all children must be accompanied by an adult.
