No parking on Chestnut Street today
KULPMONT - There will be no parking on the 600 through 1000 blocks of Chestnut Street from 9 a.m. to noon today due to line painting.
Landscaping effort at Noblit home
ELYSBURG - Volunteers are welcome to help with landscaping at the home of wounded Marine Cpl. David Noblit, 53 Heartland Blvd., starting at 9 a.m. Saturday.
Volunteers are asked to bring shovels, gloves, rakes and handheld gardening tools. Donations of water are being accepted, and organizers are looking for someone with a large portable grill so hamburgers and hot dogs can be made for lunch. Contact Angie Arnold at 648-6294 for more information.
The home was built for Noblit, a native of Herndon who lost both his legs in a 2010 IED explosion at Patrol Base Fulod, Afghanistan, through the Homes For Our Troops. The nonprofit organization builds specially adapted homes for disabled veterans.
Food pantry to hold distribution
ATLAS - The Mount Carmel Township Food Pantry will have its monthly distribution from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday at the township complex. Residents in Atlas, Diamondtown, Strong, Locust Gap, Connorsville, Dooleyville and Beaverdale who signed up previously are eligible.
Resurfacing project to start Monday
LOCUST TOWNSHIP - A resurfacing project on Route 2010 (Ringtown Mountain Road) is scheduled to begin Monday and be completed by Friday, June 6.
A red arrow detour will be in place while the work is being performed between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. using Route 42 (Numidia Drive), Route 2001 (Ideal Park Road), Route 2012 (Mill Grove Road) and Route 2003 (Old Reading Road). The detour will be lifted during evening and overnight hours.
