Collection for Carmelite nuns
SHAMOKIN - Members of the Cardinal Mindszenty Fourth Degree Assembly of the Knights of Columbus will make collections following weekend Masses at local Catholic churches for the benefit of the Discalced Carmelite nuns in Elysburg and the Carmelite nuns in Danville.
Knights will collect Saturday and Sunday at Our Lady of Hope Church, Coal Township, and St. Patrick's Church, Trevorton. Future collections will be announced in church bulletins.
Life Line screenings at churches
ELYSBURG - The Elysburg United Methodist Church, 117 W. Center St., Elysburg will host the Life Line screening on Friday, March 8. Screenings identify potential cardiovascular conditions such as blocked arteries and irregular heart rhythm, abdominal aortic aneurysms, and hardening of the arteries in the legs, which is a strong predictor of heart disease. A bone density screening to assess osteoporosis risk is also offered and is appropriate for both men and women.

Shamokin Area Pre-K registration
COAL TOWNSHIP - Shamokin Area School District is taking appointments to be held March 26 and 27 for the Pre-K program for four-year-olds.
Parents are asked to call the elementary school office at 648-5721, extension 2900, to make an appointment.
Children must be four years of age by the first day of school, which is tentatively scheduled for Monday, Aug. 26, to qualify.
